The Space Between
Due out to consortium members on August 1, 2026 , The Space Between is a new work for Wind Symphony that explores the concept of liminality—the transitional "space between" what was and what is next. Inspired by the writings of Richard Rohr, this work treats the liminal state as a place of profound vulnerability and openness where we are most teachable and free from illusion. This “in between" is a spiritual and psychological threshold where conflict meets resolution, serving as a suspended moment of introspection where the soul is tuned to hear the melody of its own existence.
To capture the dual nature of this transition, the music juxtaposes the pain of instability, expressed through dissonant harmonies and unsettling percussion, with the beauty of potential, emerging through bright, major sonorities. This journey culminates in a profound, meditative stillness—highlighted by intimate clarinet and trumpet solos—that invites the listener into a sacred space of vulnerability, finding a strange kind of peace and wonder in the act of becoming.
