Concert Band - GRADE 1.5

While the title suggests a digital malfunction, the performance requires total mechanical precision, which is what makes this piece a great teaching tool. It uses fundamental instrumental techniques to blend the sound of the band with the genre-bending track that incorporates dubstep, hip-hop, and techno.

 

The flutes, oboes, saxophones, and bassoons utilize octave leaps and slurs. Clarinets are tasked with navigating the register key with fluid ease, ensuring the "glitch" remains musical even when crossing the break. Brass players get to focus on lip slurs in a fun way while the percussion section locks into the groove using two-mallet technique.

Although Techno Glitch was composed to provide students a fun alternative to technical "drills" used to develop flexibility, range, and dexterity, it makes a fun addition to any performance.
